UK Energy Cost Calculators: Electricity and Heater Running Costs
Use practical UK energy calculators to estimate appliance and electric-heater running costs from watts, hours of use and your electricity unit rate. Enter the tariff shown on your own bill for the most relevant estimate.
Start here: for general appliances use the Electricity Cost Calculator UK. For portable or fixed electric heaters, use the dedicated Electric Heater Running Cost Calculator UK.
Electricity Cost Calculator UK
Estimate how much an appliance costs to run from its power rating, the time it is used and your electricity price per kWh.

Useful for TVs, computers, kitchen appliances, dehumidifiers and other electrical devices where you know or can estimate the wattage.
Electric Heater Running Cost Calculator UK
Calculate the maximum continuous running cost of an electric heater and see hourly, daily, weekly and 30-day estimates.

The heater calculator also explains why thermostatic cycling, room heat loss and settings can make real electricity use lower than the continuous rated-power estimate.
How to use the calculators
- Find the appliance or heater power rating in watts.
- Enter the number of hours you expect to use it.
- Use the electricity unit rate in pence per kWh from your own tariff or bill.
- Compare different usage times or settings rather than relying on one headline figure.
- Remember that thermostatically controlled appliances may not draw full rated power continuously.
If watts, kW and kWh are unfamiliar, read kWh Explained UK before interpreting the results.
Understand what the result means
Running-cost calculations are based on the energy used and the electricity unit rate. They normally exclude the daily standing charge because you pay that charge regardless of whether a particular appliance is running.
Your real cost can differ if an appliance cycles on and off, uses several power modes, or runs for a different length of time than expected. Use the calculators as transparent estimates, then compare them with your actual meter or smart-meter data where possible.
